About us
I started up The Blue Mongoose in 2012 after some years living with my young family in India.
It was a family venture as we were so inspired by the colours, textures and wildlife we saw during our travels through the sub-continent, and we found and teamed-up with a small, family-run fabric-printing business to bring this range of flower and bird-themed cotton goods to the UK. The napkins are made of soft but durable cotton that washes again and again without fading, while the clothing is made of the finest cotton voile.
The fabric is screen-printed on long tables using stencils that are hand-made. The dye is swept over the stencils and fabric by hand, and the cloth is then left to dry naturally before the next colour is applied. Finally the fabric is washed and made into these beautiful items
The Blue Mongoose name was inspired by the family of mongooses who lived in our garden and who provided us many hours of entertainment (and kept the garden snake-free). They were so much a part of the family, even the blue mongoose pictured in the logo, designed by one of my daughters when she was only seven, is wearing a Blue Mongoose nightie.
We have now made our home in Somerset and our garden is sadly free of mongooses, but full of hares and gorgeous birds.
The Blue Mongoose sells at local and charity fairs, including the very popular Somerset Collective pop-ups, and is stocked by discerning Somerset and Dorset independent retailers. For any queries contact me and I will reply to you as soon as I can.
